The favourite: Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland won the Golden Boot last season with 27 goals, finishing ahead of Mohamed Salah. That was his third in four seasons, and bookmakers made him a strong favourite again before a ball was kicked. He led the scoring charts in September, and Manchester City have won all six league games under Enzo Maresca.
The early contenders
The opening weeks have spread the goals around. Rayan Cherki and Anthony Elanga were among the early leaders, Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick against Ipswich in August, and Sunderland's Brian Brobbey hit three in the 5–3 defeat to Manchester City. Over 38 games, though, consistency usually beats a hot start.

How the Golden Boot works
The award goes to the player with the most Premier League goals. If players finish level on goals, they share the award, as Salah, Sadio Mané and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did in 2018-19. Goals in cup competitions and European games do not count.
